13+ Admissions timeline for 2013 onwards
Stage One: Enquiry
An enquiry to us is the first stage of the admission process. Following your call or email, we will take note of your contact details, send you a prospectus, and invite you to Open Mornings. You might also like to arrange an individual visit, to tour the College with one of our prefects, and to meet key members of staff. Do call us well in advance to arrange this, as our visits diary is often very busy.
Stage Two: Registering
Registering your child is the second stage in the admission process. If you have been to see us and would like your child to be considered for a place, please do complete the registration form and return it to us with the registration fee. This should be done no later than the September of your child's Year 7.
Once a child is registered, they are entered on our books as having officially expressed an interest in joining the College. They will be invited to attend 'Orientation Days' to get a taste of a day in the life of the College.
If your child is dyslexic or has had an Educational Psychologist's report carried out, we need to see a copy of this to ensure that it meets our LDD entry criteria (please ask for a copy of this policy). They will be invited to attend an additional Dyslexia Assessment Day in the January of their Year 7.
Stage Three: Assessments, Deposits and Admission
Common Entrance (CE)/Common Academic Scholarship: If your child is at a Preparatory school where the CE exam is taken, we will liaise with the Head two years prior to entry to ascertain their predicted CE grade. If there is any concern over them achieving the pass mark, they will be invited to attend an informal pre-test at the College. The purpose of the test is to assist both the College and prospective families in determining whether Brighton College is the right choice for the pupil. Following the pre-testing, we invite parents to reserve a place for their child with a deposit, which will reserve the place subject to the pupil achieving the pass mark.
For those pupils that are not required to attend the pre-test, after confirmation from their Head teacher that they are on track to achieve our entry requirements, we will invite parents to reserve a place for their child with a deposit. As above, this deposit will reserve the place subject to the pupil achieving the pass mark.
Non-CE Pupils: Pupils who do not attend schools that prepare them for Common Entrance will be invited to our assessment day in the January of their Year 7. The tests will be in English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning. Before the assessments, we will contact your child's current school for a reference, so it is advisable to discuss your application with them.
Stage Four: Scholarships
Information on scholarships will be sent out in October/November of the year prior to entry, and pupils will be invited to apply for these. You should consult your child's current school for advice on scholarships for which your child is most suited to apply. Assessments for scholarships run from January to May in the proposed year of entry. In addition to Academic Scholarships the following awards are offered: Music, Choral, Sport, Art, Drama, Design Technology and All-Rounder.
