16+ Admissions timeline for 2014 onwards
Stage One: Enquiring
An enquiry to us is the first stage of the admission process. Following your call or email, we will take note of your contact details, send you a prospectus and invite you to attend an Open Morning.
You might also like to arrange an individual visit, to meet the Head of Sixth Form and tour the College with one of our prefects. Do call us in advance to arrange this, as our visits diary is often very busy. Please note that we are not able to accommodate any new visits this term. We will be able to book in visits for the next academic year from July onwards.
Stage Two: Registering
Registering your child is the second stage in the admission process. At this point, we ask to see a copy of a current school report, where possible. This assists both you and the College in determining whether Brighton is the right choice for your child.
The next step is to complete a copy of our registration form, which we will be happy to send you. If you would like your child to be considered for a place, please do complete this form and return it to us with the registration fee. Registration is normally one year prior to entry.
Once your child is registered, they are entered on our books as having officially expressed an interest in joining the College, and will be invited to attend our Sixth Form Assessment Day.
Please note that registrations for UK pupils for entry in September 2014 will close on Tuesday 5th November.
Stage Three: Assessments
Assessments for Sixth Form entry take place in the November prior to the year of entry. Everyone who has registered for the next year of entry will be invited to attend. Pupils are assessed in Verbal Reasoning and two further papers: a General paper, split evenly between English and Maths, and a Specialist paper, split evenly between two subjects of the pupil's choice. Pupils with dyslexia or other learning difficulties will not be required to sit the Verbal Reasoning paper, and pupils whose first language is not English will sit a paper in English as an Additional Language in place of the Verbal Reasoning paper.
For 2014 entry, assessments will be held on Friday 15th November for full boarding pupils, and Saturday 16th November for day and weekly boarding pupils.
After the assessments, pupils will be invited back for interview the following week, on the basis of their assessment papers.
Information on Sixth Form Scholarships will be sent out at the same time as invitations to the Assessment Day, and pupils are welcome to apply for these. For Sixth Form entry, we offer Scholarships in Expressive Arts (Art, Dance, Design & Technology, Drama, Music), Sports and Academic achievement.
For 2014 entry, Scholarship candidates will be assessed on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November.
Before the Assessment Day, we will contact your child's current school for a reference, so it is advisable to discuss your application with them.
Stage Four: Admission
Pupils are offered places at the College on the basis of their performance in the entry assessments and interview, subject to satisfactory references from their current school.
Acceptance forms are sent out to successful candidates in the first week of December, 10 months prior to admission, and a place is confirmed with payment of the acceptance deposit. Joining papers are then sent out over the summer, and the pupil joins the College in September.
