Skidelsky Building

Over the summer of 2009 the old Art School was demolished to make way for the College's largest building project for 25 years. The four-storey Skidelsky building is named after one of the school's most eminent Old Boys, now Chairman of the College Governors, Lord Skidelsky. The new building, which was formally opened on 16th October 2010 by the Chairman himself, houses a state-of-the-art Design Technology School, a new English Department, and pastoral accommodation for the Third Form pupils.
Designed by Kirkland Fraser Moor, the building is made of black brick with full length panel windows.
The DT department occupies the ground floor of the building, benefitting from a comprehensive suite of computer controlled manufacturing equipment, that enable pupils in all years to produce inspiring and impressive practical work.
The English department is on the first floor, equipped with new smart boards and the Third Form are enjoying a fabulous, light and airy common room space on the second floor, with panoramic sea views. With its own IT facilities and close proximity to the teaching spaces for the major departments of English, RS and Classics, the pupils have a space to relax in during the school day whilst being close to the academic action! Close supervision from the Headmistress of the Lower School, Leah Hamblett, in the mezzanine level office means that pastoral care is as excellent as ever, and prospective new parents, in their meetings with Miss Hamblett, get a real taste of what the Lower School will mean for their child.
