Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is an internationally renowned qualification that gives all young people the chance to develop skills for work and life, fulfil their potential and have a brighter future.

The award offers pupils a challenging opportunity to further themselves through practical, cultural and adventurous activities.

It is a four-Section programme with three progressive levels:

  • Bronze (for those aged 14+, taking at least 6 months)
  • Silver (for those aged 15+, taking at least 12 months)
  • Gold (for those aged 16+, taking at least 18 months)

The Sections involve:

  • Service (helping people in the community)
  • Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest)
  • Physical Recreation (sport, dance and fitness)
  • Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot, etc.)
  • Residential Project (Gold only) (a purposeful enterprise with people previously unknown to the participant)

The best bit is the fact that you get to choose what to do! Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing and along the way you will pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
