Junior Boarding (11-13)

Boys and girls who join the school as boarders in Year 7 join the Junior Boarding House at Handcross Park Preparatory School.
The Junior Boarding House is a lively and integral part of Handcross Park School and is situated in the heart of the main building. It has been newly refurbished and the warm, friendly pastoral team ensures that there is always a "home away from home" atmosphere within the safe, secure and nurturing environment on a beautiful fifty acre site.
The boarding house staff strive to ensure that the children enjoy a comfortable family atmosphere where they can flourish. There are resident house parents who live with their family in the boarding house. They are supported by a house matron and a team of staff who undertake duties throughout the week. Our team is committed to the well-being of each and every child in our care; allowing them to develop and grow in preparation for entry into their senior schools.
Children are able to relax in their rooms with their friends after a full day at school and enjoy all the benefits that come with a happy and popular boarding house. There is a wide range of after school activities for Handcross Park children including swimming, horse riding, dancing, martial arts, rock climbing, art, drama and music clubs. In fact, there is so much to do, it's hard to make a choice!
Evening prep sessions are supervised by teaching staff during the week and at weekends, providing help and support where necessary. The boarders really benefit from this additional attention to their academic studies. After prep, a range of organised activities are available for boarders including sports, treasure hunts, arts and crafts and the occasional party night for special occasions. There is time to relax, too, and every boarder has an opportunity to enjoy 'me' time in the evenings, when they can phone home, email, write letters, and snuggle down on the sofa to read a book or watch TV.
For full boarders, weekends are a time to relax with sleep-ins and late breakfasts (the food is excellent here - chef has even won awards for her meals!), as well as enjoying a range of activities and trips out. Every student goes out at least once during the weekend and trips to London, Brighton and other attractions ensure that every student has a fulfilled and active life with plenty to tell their family back home.
