Speech Day

Speech Day

29/06/12

The College's annual Speech Day was held at The Dome on Saturday 23rd June, as the college community came together once again to celebrate the achievements and highlights of the last academic year.

All were particularly delighted to welcome the actor and comedian, Mr Simon Bird, as Guest of Honour. Famous nationwide for his rôle as Will in the BAFTA winning comedy 'The Inbetweeners', and at Brighton College also for being the younger brother of our own Mr Alan Bird, Head of Sixth Form, the actor joined the Head Master, his guests and staff on stage to present pupils with their various awards. He then thrilled the packed audience with his greatly anticipated address, which was challenging, extremely funny but inspiring in its insight.

The Head Master paid tribute to Mr John Spencer, who will be retiring today after 34 years with the College, and to Mr Ken Grocott, who leaves today after 22 years at Brighton, to become the Headmaster of Brighton College Abu Dhabi. Sasha Morse, Head of School, gave a vote of thanks to Simon Bird, and spoke of her time at the College.

The college's talented musicians, actors, singers and dancers entertained and entranced the audience with performances throughout the morning, commencing with music of welcome from the Swing Band in the foyer, followed by music from Schindler's List, extracts from The Mikado and a performance by the winners of Strictly Come Dancing. Finally, the Head Master named the Head of School and Deputies for the coming year. Many congratulations to Cameron Dashwood (Hampden) who will succeed Sasha as the new Head of School, and to Tessa Hutchinson (Fenwick) and Hansy Shore (Seldon), our two new Deputies.
