Drama

Drama in the Third Form is about building skills while having fun. Our aim is to foster talent, creativity, personal confidence and communication skills, as well as develop all-round performance skills and theatre knowledge.

Lower Third (Year 7)

The high points of the year are the Michaelmas play, often a seasonal offering, in which everyone has a speaking part, and the end of year Third Form play.  Between these points, time is spent building the imagination and introducing pupils to some of the most significant theatre practitioners: Stanislavsky, Brecht and Boal.

Upper Third  (Year 8)

Developing performance skills is emphasised in the Upper Third, and a range of texts and devised theatre is used for this: work from Shakespeare to Kneehigh.  The mid-point of the year is marked by a play festival, in which the whole group take part, either as performers or production crew.  Recently the event has consisted of shortened versions of 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'The Tempest.'

Trips and Extra-curricular

The end of year is marked by many College productions and the Third Form have their chance to shine in the Lower School Play.  Last year we had 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', and this year will see 'Bugsy Malone'.

Throughout the year there is a Third Form Drama club, which also runs trips from time to time: most recently to see 'The Artist.'
