College Open Mornings
French
In the Third Form our aim is to encourage pupils to approach the study of French with curiosity, enthusiasm and confidence. Lessons feature lots of games and group work to help overcome pupils' initial shyness about speaking French. We use phonics and teach pupils to use bilingual dictionaries proficiently so that they are able to explore the language themselves.
Lower Third (Year 7)
Pupils are set according to their prior knowledge of French, and follow either Expo 1 for a beginners' course, or Expo 2 for those with more extensive prior knowledge. The topics covered offer a broad introduction to language learning, including talking about self and family, pets, friends, school life and hobbies.
Upper Third (Year 8)
Pupils remain in the same sets. Those who were beginners in Lower Third progress to Expo 2, and those who studied Expo 2 use Clic 3 Plus to learn how to use more advanced language. All pupils reach the standard required to tackle the Fourth Form curriculum by the end of the year.
Trips
We offer an annual Lower School trip to the Third and Fourth Forms at the start of the Christmas Holidays. This popular trip offers an exciting introduction to Paris, including visiting all the main attractions and a full day at EuroDisney. All junior pupils of French are welcome to attend, regardless of their level of French.
