Religious Studies

In the Third Form, Religious Studies is integrated into the 'Story of our Land' curriculum. The subjects studied are:

Lower Third (Year 7)

  • Questions of Truth, Evidence and Knowledge: questions from Plato and Aristotle.
  • Questions of Faith, Belief and Spirituality: arguments about the existence of God.
  • Creation Stories from around the world: includes Hinduism, Buddhism, and Aboriginal stories.
  • Judaism and the Old Testament: key beliefs, festivals and celebrations.
  • Christianity and the New Testament: key beliefs, festivals and celebrations.
  • Medieval Religion and belief in the afterlife: the concepts of heaven and hell, the Seven Deadly Sins and pilgrimage in the past and present.
  • Islam: key beliefs, festivals and celebrations.

Upper Third (Year 8)

  • The Diversity of Christianity: Catholics, Anglicans and Protestant denominations.
  • The Enlightenment: philosophers who made a difference.
  • Hinduism: key beliefs, festivals and celebrations.
  • Buddhism: key beliefs, festivals and celebrations.
  • Sikhism: key beliefs, festivals and celebrations.
