Music

If you enjoy composing and performing music, learning an instrument or singing, creating music on computers and learning about all types of music including classical, popular and world then GCSE Music is for you!

You will learn how to improve your performing skills, understand how music is constructed from initial ideas through to the finished product and develop your knowledge of a variety of styles enabling you to discover the social and historical context in which music has been composed over the past 400 years or so.

Fourth (Year 9)

In Year 9 all pupils have one period of music per week.  In these classes we  work through the specially designed Brighton College Music Curriculum which incorporates many of the key skills needed to be successful at GCSE.

Topics covered include:  Music in the Media, Electronic Music, Form and Structure and Experimental Music.  These topics are explored through a mixture of composing, performing and listening.

Lower Fifth (Year 10)

In year 10 pupils follow the Edexcel GCSE music course. They develop performing skills both as soloists and in ensembles, learn about the composition of music following set briefs and study how composers develop musical ideas through analysis of set works from the GCSE Anthology.

Upper 5th  (Year 11)

In year 11 pupils continue the study begun in year 10 focusing on world music and popular song set works.  They also record performing course work and refine their two composition submissions.
