Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship

The Sixth Form timetable was restructured in 2010 to provide a tailor-made course in entrepreneurship for all members of the Lower Sixth.  The aim is to prepare pupils for more than just entry into university and the professions.

Launched in September of that year by Professor Gerry Musgrave, it is both theoretical and practical. It considers why some businesses fail while others succeed and provides information about how to raise capital to start-up businesses. It brings into our school successful entrepreneurs to talk to our Sixth Formers.

Part of the programme is a school-wide entrepreneurship challenge where each House develops a business plan, presents it to an expert panel for consideration and then rolls it out to the whole school, when three are given the finance to commercialise their product.

There are a number of other initiatives, too. An individual 'Ideas Competition' for the incoming Lower Sixth is run during the summer holidays, with a chance to win a cash prize. There is also an opportunity for our U5th pupils, and those from local state schools, to attend a separate Enterprise Day, where they come up with an idea, present the concept and have feedback on presentation skills.
