Library

The LRC lies within the heart of the main building on the first floor, and is the main learning resource in the college.  It was refurbished in 2003, and consists of two galleried rooms combining the best of traditional and modern architecture.

The LRC houses 15 computer terminals linked to the college network and is home to 14,000 books, audiobooks and DVDs. Non-fiction books are indexed according to the Dewey decimal System and fiction books are shelved by author and alphabetically.

There is also a large selection of Magazines and Newspapers. Students are free to borrow any item they need for their class work and coursework, whether it is a Shakespeare play or a project on genetics; there is also a large borrowing section of films and books for leisure use.

The LRC is managed by Miss Cécile Mayanobe, and she is assisted by Mr. Simon Ashdown. The library is available to all students until 6.30pm Monday to Thursday and until 5pm on Friday.

All students are inducted in the use of the LRC when they first arrive in the college, so they can make the best possible use of the resources within it.

The LRC is a place for serious individual study, it is also used as a classroom when teachers bring groups in to conduct research tasks.  It hosts the Family Society Reading Group, and visiting authors on a regular basis. Recent visiting writers include Nick Hornby, poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Carnegie Medal winner Meg Rosoff and Southern Schools Book Award Winner Lucy Christopher.
