Boys’ Houses
Boys are allocated to one of two boarding Houses (see Boarding Life) or five day Houses. Whether day or boarding, each House has the same structure: a Housemaster plus at least five Tutors. Each year group has a Tutor who is responsible for the immediate day to day organisation of the boys and who helps monitor and guide pastoral and academic progress. The Tutor is likely to be the first port of call that the family makes when contacting the school. The Housemaster maintains the overview of all the boys in his House and is responsible for the tone and ethos of the House. He will also take specific interest in key areas of the pupils' progress, such as GCSE choices and university admissions; he will also be involved to help boys through any disciplinary issues.
Each House develops its own ethos and spirit, as much due to the bonding and corps d'esprit of the boys themselves as the Housemaster! The House Competition is fiercely fought and offers opportunities for all boys to represent their House in a wide range of events and activities, from Singing to Swimming and Entrepreneurship to Tug-o-War.
The school allocates new boys to Houses in such a way as to spread their wide range of backgrounds, skills and talents in a uniform way. The boys' Houses are:
