Athletics (Boys & Girls)

Brighton College Athletics

Member of staff i/c: Mr S Lilley

Athletics is one of the major Trinity Term sports for both boys and girls. Brighton College Athletics Club is in excellent health and able to field very strong A and B teams at every age group. Pupils relish the opportunity to pull on the BC vest and this enjoyment and excitement shines though at competitions. College teams attend co-ed and single sex meets on Saturdays against other independent schools including Cranleigh, Epsom, Harrow, Malborough, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Charterhouse and Wellington. Off the back of strong team performances, many individual athletes go on to win county, regional and national titles.

College athletes train at the Withdean Athletics Stadium twice a week with specialised coaches in every discipline from throw and jumps to middle distance and sprints.  Individual athletes compete at the Brighton and Hove District Championships with many progressing to the Sussex County Championships. Every year several athletes go on to represent Sussex at English Schools with silver medals won in 2016.

Brighton College Athletics Club regularly wins the prestigious Copenhagen Shield at Wellington College and in 2016 the Boys A team finished second to Eton at the Lord Burleigh Trophy. In addition to an excellent competitive structure for athletes, the club also offers exceptional technical and physical development for pupils who specialise in rugby, netball, hockey and football during the Michaelmas and Trinity Terms.
