Brighton College Football

Member of staff i/c: Mr M Doyle

Football at Brighton College is the major sport in Hilary term and has endured popular success in recent years. There is a good environment for boys to participate and develop their tactical and technical football. The club prides itself on its breadth of provision for all boys whether they are county level players, ISFA or ESFA representatives, or simply are focused on enjoying the social and physical benefits of football.

The history of football at the College dates back to the late nineteenth century with many boys of that era gaining blues. G H Cotterill captained England in 1893 against Scotland and other Old Boys played in the FA cup while recent success has led to players such as Joe Gatting playing professional football for Brighton & Hove. The enthusiasm for football continues today and plays an important part of the games programme. The club has benefitted from recently joining the newly formed Sussex and Kent Independent Schools League (SKIL) where all the block fixtures are competitive league games against: King's Canterbury, Worth, Christ's Hospital, Sevenoaks, Epsom and Colfe's. As well as the league fixtures, there are still the long-standing fixtures against the likes of Wellington College, Bede's, Royal Russell, and local derbies against Eastbourne and Hurstpierpoint College. The senior teams also enter the English Schools FA Cup and the annual Sevenoaks School Futsal tournament. The season curtain raiser is always the much anticipated 1st XI vs. Old Boys played at Whitehawk FC.  The club also competes in multiple cups events, ISFA Cup in the Michaelmas term and the Trinity Cup in the Hilary term.

The college makes good use of the superb local facilities around the area, using the 3G pitch at Stanley Deason (home of Brighton and Hove Albion Academy) for games sessions and matches, both in the afternoon and evening, as well as using our own pitches and sports pavilion at our Jubilee ground. As of this year, Chelsea FC and Brighton & Hove Albion academy coaches we will be working in partnership with us, assisting with the running of our teams to ensure that our boys reach the highest of their abilities.

The club runs with the following philosophies:
Prepare the boys to play an attractive and expansive brand of football
Prepare the boys to continue their football once they have left the school
Prepare senior teams to compete and perform at the highest of their abilities
