Brighton College Instrumental Music

Instrumental music thrives at Brighton College. Orchestras, chamber groups, wind and brass ensembles and more contemporary groups all have a place here.  The extra-curricular programme encompasses all styles of music and provides opportunities for musicians at every level to become involved.  A number of ensembles such as the Lower School Orchestra and Swing Band are arranged specifically to cater for the musical development of pupils in the youngest years.

The College's Symphony Orchestra rehearses and performs great works from the symphonic repertoire enabling players to develop their confidence and experience, whilst the College's Chamber Orchestra offers unrivalled opportunities for more advanced players to develop their ensemble skills.

The Swing Band is a popular feature of all major College concerts.  They are regularly invited to perform at outside events such as the annual NHS Ball and The Brighton Marathon. They recently toured to France where they performed in the Lucky Nugget Saloon in Disneyland, Paris and will be performing in the Montreux Festival next year.

Brighton College is nationally renowned for its high standard of Chamber Music.  Groups are tailor-made to develop the skills of individual students and weekly coaching is provided by members of the music staff.  In recent years students have achieved success in competitions such as the National Chamber Music for Schools Competition, The National Chamber Music Festival and The Pro Corda Chamber Music Festival.
Regular masterclasses and workshops are also given by leading professional performers. Recent highlights have included workshops and masterclasses with artists such as Joanna MacGregor, Emma Johnson and the Swingle Singers.
