To enable this, our facilities have been designed to be more than functional: they use space, light and resources to inspire both teachers and pupils. Our buildings have won numerous architectural awards for their innovative designs and help make Brighton College the most forward-thinking school in Britain.

School of Science and Sport
Our brand new School of Science and Sport opened in January 2020. Designed by world-renowned architects OMA, the School contains 18 university-standard laboratories, break out spaces for research, a 25-metre pool, a strength and conditioning suite, a rooftop running track and a double-height sports hall.
Teaching spaces
In 2017 we unveiled the Kai Yong Yeoh Building, designed by world-renowned architects Hopkins. This building features 22 classrooms, modular furniture and a Creative Learning Centre that houses a state-of-the-art media suite. Having recently been nominated for a RIBA and Sussex Heritage Trust Award, the building provides dynamic spaces for pupils to creatively engage with their subjects.

Our library
The library lies within the heart of the College and provides pupils with the perfect location for independent study.
It is a treasure trove of the very latest fiction as well as a great source of non-fiction, audio books, magazines, DVDs and eResources. Library staff are always available to support research and encourage reading for pleasure.
Throughout the year, pupils can get involved in a wide range of library activities including reading challenges, book groups and competitions. Authors regularly visit the school to talk to pupils and inspire them with a love of reading.
Art and design spaces
Opened in 2008, the Alexander Arts Centre is a large, loft-style studio and photography unit. With an abundance of natural light in the space, pupils are able to explore their creativity in a variety of mediums. This includes access to a dark room and a silk screen printing room.
Our RIBA award-winning Skidelsky Building houses our Design and Technology department. This is based in a multi-purpose workshop and design studio that incorporates the latest manufacturing machinery and equipment, as well as traditional tools and resources.

Performance spaces
In 2015 we opened our RIBA award-winning Music School and Sarah Abraham Recital Hall. Our pupils enjoy professional rehearsal, recording and performance facilities and a Fazioli piano. The 15 practice rooms with pianos enable pupils to refine technique.
The College also benefits from two dance studios: the Montague performance space and a traditional and suitably large Great Hall.

Boarding spaces
Boarding houses have been designed to ensure a sense of community and comfort during and after school. Our award-winning Simon Smith Building becomes a social space for boarders in the evening, with a stylish cafe, outside theatre space and study stations.
Our girls' boarding house, New House, was awarded a RIBA architectural prize and was longlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize. The first co-educational Sixth Form boarding house, Alexander House, is a renovated Victorian property with stunning boutique interiors.
Boarding boasts high tech computer rooms and a variety of recreational games in a comfy, homely and modern setting.”

Social spaces
We have numerous social areas around the school for pupils to enjoy between lessons. As well as enabling pupils to socialise, these spaces are regularly transformed into meeting and performance areas. Our Smith Cafe is used to host jazz recitals and discos; our dining hall is transformed for events such as Burns Night; and Scotts Cafe is regularly used for our 'At Home' events.

Sports facilities
Our ethos is 'sports for all', and our coaches devote time and attention to develop pupils of all abilities. For those who enjoy competitive games, we're proud to prepare so many national players in a wide range of sports. Over 30 Old Brightonians have represented their country in a variety of sports in the last 10 years.
Our world-class sporting facilities and dedicated coaches enable pupils to discover new interests and refine their techniques. With the opening of the School of Science and Sport there are even more possibilities than before.
