Our Year 5 pupils have been exploring the idea of robots, learning about mechanical art by looking at artists such as Jean Tinguely, best known for his surreal mechanical sculptures that move and creak like real robots!
The pupils were also introduced to a range of toy robots from the 1950s and 1960s, exploring how the Space Race influenced the design. They then created a range of robot pictures, with the project culminating in plaster relief panels made by pressing objects into clay and then casting the pictures in plaster, or relief panels made by sticking objects onto boards. The pieces were finished by enhancing the textures and patterns with bright coloured ink.
A range of the finished pieces are now on display in the Prep School Reception.
