Year 3 took a short coach journey across to The 1st Central County Ground in Hove to watch the Sussex Sharks take on Glamorgan in the Royal London One-Day Cup. The intimate nature of the ground allows the pupils to get up really close to the professionals and see for their own eyes the athleticism, technique and skill on display. The group were greeted by a duo of very friendly Shark mascots and a Sussex Foundation representative escorted them to their seats. Every pupil was provided with a card with 4 on one side and a 6 on other to wave when the batting team recorded a boundary. The match happened to be televised on Sky Sports and the children and staff certainly enjoyed catching a glimpse of themselves on the big screen. A number of children enjoyed interpreting the complicated scoreboard to keep up with the contest that was evolving before their very eyes. Also in operation during our visit was the Sussex Cricket Foundation Roadshow. Run by SCF Coaches, this excellent initiative gave every child the opportunity to show off the batting, bowling and throwing skills that they have been learning in their games lessons.
