On Wednesday we had the privilege of hearing The Cardinall’s Musick sing in the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall. Their programme of ‘War and Peace’ was a stunning mix of Byrd, MacMillan, Part and Gibbons, and the ensemble were exquisite - bringing the sixteenth century together with the modern age to look at how composers have reacted to difficult times. The programme was interspersed with Bryd’s Kyrie and Agnus Dei from the Mass for Five Voices and Mass for Four Voices, contrasting with the more modern pieces by James MacMillan such as Alpha and Omega. The Cardinall’s Musick’s sense of togetherness, immaculate diction and stunning tuning provided a world class example of a capella ensemble singing.
The Chamber Choir and Music Service pupils were lucky enough to have a masterclass in the afternoon with conductor Patrick Craig, working on Tippett spirituals and Tallis’ If Ye Love Me.
Many thanks to The Cardinall's Musick for such an exciting and inspiring day.
