Geography
To explore the world in which we live,
To know the reasons why, how, when and where,
We try to open up their minds
To teach them how to care.
We develop special geographical skills
Look at places close at hand,
Our school, our town, our country
And then further distant lands.
We observe and compare features, measure and record
Through practical activities and field work on the spot.
Using maps and globes and atlases and skills in I.C.T.
The children answer questions and learn a lot.
A travelling companion can be found in many classes,
To aid learning about places both near and far away.
Maybe a bear, a dog, a rabbit, the choice is always theirs.
They travel with a diary and take photos where they stay.
On returning to the classroom
They find out where they’ve been
Investigate the countries
And all that has been seen.
The presentation of all this can be in pictures, paintings, verse,
In assembly contributions and display around the school,
In story writing and accounts and verbal explanations too,
But always in the praising of learning as a tool.
