History

null

We believe that even young children
From just five and up to eight
Can behave just like historians
And learn to investigate…

They engage in the process of gathering evidence
And interpret and analyse
And soon they present their findings
And learn to empathise.

Providing investigations are structured
And we as teachers are there to guide,
The resources are stimulating and attractive
The possibilities are wide.

We provide a background of information
Of meaningful topics, contexts and themes
That  follow the National Curriculum
And the expectations created in our schemes.

Teacher presentation and story- telling time
Combined with music, dance and drama, museum visits too
Allow for active learning and encourage more research
With development of language and all that can ensue.

Their comprehension of chronology, understanding of events
Their knowledge of famous people, of causes and effects
Through interpretation and enquiry and communication too
Highlight the possibilities and new interest it injects.

The children use resources such as photos, paintings, maps,
They interpret diary extracts, look at documents and books,
They investigate small artefacts, ask questions more and more
Topics come to life and they really learn to look.
