House Assembly
On Tuesday, it was our house assembly and we performed a play entitled The Mighty Clans of Scotland. Twenty-six members of our house, from year 4 to year 8, starred in the play. They were transformed into chiefs, sheriffs, kings, lords, soldiers, clansmen and clanswomen, re-enacting scenes from the Highlands in times gone by.The history lesson about clans was brought to life as we met the McDouglas family who told us about their culture and traditions. We met the fierce Chief Maclain of the Macdonald clan and saw the tragic tale of the famous massacre at Glen Coe unfold before our eyes. His clan were slaughtered by soldiers, some of whom belonged to the neighbouring clan, the Campbells, after staying with them as their guests for 12 days.
The assembly finished with a modern day clan member, Duncan Commin, telling us about his ancestry. The finale saw some rousing Scottish music played on his violin, accompanied by Scottish dancing from the whole cast!
Well done to all the members of St Andrew’s house who took part!
