Overall Summary

Brighton College Prep School is a flourishing community striving for and attaining good academic standards and very high standards in teaching, pupils’ behaviour, sport, extra-curricular activities and pastoral care. The school has established very good communication with parents, and is very well led and managed. It is now in a strong position to resolve a number of issues such as providing stronger challenges for the most able pupils in Years 7 and 8 in a few subject areas, and eliminating clashes between the sports and academic programmes. The development of the school will be eased further when the head attends the meetings of the Governing Board, which currently does not occur.

Of the school’s many strengths, the following are prominent:

  • A high proportion of the teaching is good or very good. It affects the work within the curriculum beneficially, and it often promotes very good and sometimes excellent results in games and extracurricular activities.
  • The school provides very effective support for pupils with special educational needs, especially those with dyslexia.
  • The school attends very well to pupils’ personal development and to their pastoral care. This contributes to pupils’ very good behaviour and their exceptionally positive attitudes to learning.
  • The dynamic leadership of the head is very good.
  • The school maintains excellent links with parents.
