Library

There is a lot going on at the Prep School Library.  Housing a fantastic stock of books, magazines, DVDs and CDs, with media players and a suite of networked computers, the Library is sure to have something to inspire, challenge and interest everyone.  Morning breaks are a good time to browse for a favourite book or visit the internet for your school project.  At lunch times there are great clubs to join such as Typing Club, Natural History Film Club, Common Room Club and ICT Club.  During lessons classes come down to the Library to watch films on our high definition TV, conduct research or listen to stories.  There is always something happening.

Book Fair

Especially popular is our annual round of events and activities.  The Library runs competitions every term for children to test their mettle against.  The Book Fair run during the Lent term is always well attended and our eagerly awaited author visits are hugely entertaining.  Informative, funny and inspiring, these visits make reading and writing accessible to children in a way that perhaps nothing else could.  There is nothing quite like actually meeting a famous author to encourage children to read something new or pick up a pen themselves.

Bob Wilson

The recent visit by Bob Wilson is a case in point.  The author so clearly understood the frustrations and difficulties that children face in creating stories that he won all our hearts very quickly.  With a great sense of humour he turned every problem inside out and upside down in order to explore means of overcoming potential obstacles to story writing.  So frank, witty and engaging was his manner that children were willing to ask all kinds of questions and did not want to stop even when our time was up.  What a great visit this was and a huge inspiration to our pupils.
