Library
There is a lot going on at the Prep School Library. Housing a fantastic stock of books, magazines, DVDs and CDs, with media players and a suite of networked computers, the Library is sure to have something to inspire, challenge and interest everyone. Morning breaks are a good time to browse for a favourite book or visit the internet for your school project. At lunch times there are great clubs to join such as Book Bites Club, Typing Club and Photography Club. During lessons, classes come down to the Library to watch films on our high definition TV, conduct research or listen to stories. There is always something happening.
Book FairEspecially popular is our annual round of events and activities. The Library runs competitions every term for children to test their mettle against. We have a new event called 'Book Swap' in which children get the chance to exchange their books for well-read stories owned by their friends and peers. The Book Fair run during the Lent term is always well attended and our eagerly awaited author visits are hugely entertaining. Informative, funny and inspiring, these visits make reading and writing accessible to children in a way that perhaps nothing else could. There is nothing quite like actually meeting a famous author to encourage children to read something new or pick up a pen themselves.
Anne Fine and fansThe recent visit by Anne Fine is a case in point. Anne (winner of the Carnegie Medal and Children's Laureate for 2001-2003) is a wonderfully gifted speaker and soon had her audience captivated by the magic of writing and desperate to read some of her wonderful stories. Luckily, as Anne told us during her talk, the best preparation for the aspiring author is to read, read and read some more. A great time was had by all, both during the talks and as children queued for her autograph. It is a testament to her popularity that so many of her books sold out during the book sale that followed the talks. This proved to be a wonderful visit and, hopefully, one to remember for years to come by those lucky children attending the event.
