Music at BCPS

Michaelmas Term

Teatime Recitals - Tuesday 13th October and Tuesday24th November, 4.30pm Prep Hall.
Short concerts giving pupils the opportunity to perform to family and friends in an informal setting. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Year 7 trip to 'Falstaff'– Friday 24th October, 3pm. 
Year 7 &  8 trip to Glyndebourne to see ‘Falstaff’.

Christmas Concert – Tuesday 1st December, 7pm, Great hall.
Festive performances by the senior and training orchestras, junior and senior choirs, chamber choir, year 8 singers, wind band, string groups, guitar ensemble, percussion group soloists and numerous other smaller ensembles. An evening not to miss!

Prep School Carol Service Tuesday 8th December, 3pm, Chapel. 
A service of readings and carols from all year groups. 

Lent Term

Prep Schools’ Choral day at Brighton College – Date to be confirmed.
A choral day for prep schools, in which the choirs prepare repertoire for a concert at St John’s Smith Square, later in the term. The prep school chamber choir will be attending this event.

House Music competition – Monday 26th – Date to be confirmed.
A fantastic opportunity for all pupils having instrumental and singing lessons, both in and out of school, to perform and gain points for their house! The competition will be judged by external  adjudicators.

Music Scholarships - Date to be confirmed.
For pupils in year 8 applying for scholarships to the senior school.

House Music Competition, Winners’ Concert - Date to be confirmed
A performance evening for pupils who were awarded first place in their instrumental and vocal classes.

Teatime Recital – Date to be confirmed
This short concert will be a vocal master-class, taken by Helen Adams. All pupils having singing lessons are encouraged to attend and participate in an ensemble item.

Year 4 Show – Date to be confirmed
A varied evening of music making, including a show casing of Miss Dixon’s fantastic new musical ‘Orpheus’.

Bugsy Malone – Thursday11th and Friday12th March, 7pm
Year 7 and 8 pupils perform this classic musical which includes the hit songs ‘Tallulah', ‘Fat Sam's Grand Slam’ and 'Bugsy Malone'.

Associated Board Music Examinations
Week commencing 8th June

Year 5 Extravaganza, Date to be confirmed
This promises to be a fantastic evening showcasing the talents of all the pupils in year 5.There is a varied programme of solo and ensemble musical items, as well as poetry and drama. An evening not to be missed!

Teatime Recital,  Instrumentalists
This teatime recital is for instrumentalists from years 4 to 8. Parents are warmly invited to attend and there will be light refreshments afterwards.

Yr6 Musical , Date to be confirmed
Set in the little town of Anetevka in turn of the century Russia, Fiddler on the Roof is the classic tale of Tevye the Dairyman, and his struggle to hold onto tradition in the face of a changing world. With fantastic songs including ‘If I were a Rich Man’ and ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, this will be a memorable evening.

Orchestra, Training Orchestra, Band, Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Senior Singers, Senior Strings, Jazz Group, Solos and chamber music.
