Prep School Open Mornings
Science

We feel passionate about science at Brighton College and we want to excite and stimulate the interest of the prep school pupils in all areas of the curriculum. We try to include as much practical work as possible, as it is through a 'hands on' approach that we can help to satisfy the pupils' curiosity of the world around them.
We teach pupils to become more independent when carrying out investigations and to share their ideas using a wide range of scientific language. The use of models to represent things they cannot experience practically enables them to try and make sense of scientific phenomena, to find explanations and to question how scientific issues can affect their own lives and the future of the world.
Above all we want children in the prep school to enjoy science. It is such an exciting subject to teach as well as to learn and we hope that we can engage the curiosity of children at a relatively early age and hopefully stimulate an interest in the world about them for the rest of their lives.
Beyond the classroom
We have a wide range of trips and extracurricular activities to ensure that our students have access to a broad and varied experience of science.
Trips
In year 6 there is a visit to Hope Gap for a habitat study where pupils can observe organisms suited to life on a rocky beach.
In year 7 there is a field trip to Pulborough Brooks where pupils undergo a freshwater habitat study.
Clubs
- Crest - This is a club for children who are interested in investigative work. Pupils are working for their 'Megastar' and 'Superstar' awards.
- Science Revision - This is run during the Lent and Summer terms for pupils in year 8 to help with their revision for CE.
- Pet Club - This is run every morning break and has proved extremely popular with all age groups.
