Trips

At Brighton College Prep School we recognise the importance of providing an educational experience that goes beyond the normal boundaries of the classroom. With this in mind, we pride ourselves on the number and variety of trips and activities we offer to our pupils -  everything from field trips to Roman camps, to skiing holidays.

Some of the annual trips that the pupils enjoy are listed below:

  • Year 4 pupils have trips to Stanmer Park, Paultons Park and the Roman villa at Bignor.
  • Year 5 pupils visit the Tate Britain Art Gallery and have a short camping trip to Blacklands Farm.
  • Year 6 pupils explore Hope Gap, Brighton Synagogue and Hindleap Warren.
  • Year 7 pupils have field trips to Pulborough Brooks and the Brighton Buddhist Centre. They also have a fantastic opportunity to improve their French during the five day, residential visit to Normandy (please read more below). The Chessington fun day is another popular trip at the end of the year.
  • Year 8 pupils have the opportunity to sample Elizabethan life by sleeping on board the Golden Hind. They finish the year with a flurry of exciting trips that include orienteering in Southwater Nature Reserve, the brilliant five day, residential trip to Cornwall (please read more below) and the one day, adrenaline-pumping trip to Thorpe Park.

There are a number of other trips and visits that are open to the whole school, such as the Shakespear4kidz theatre trip; the Houses of Parliament visit; trips to Wembley and Twickenham Stadiums as well as Lords Cricket ground. There is also the biannual ski trip which is extremely popular (please read more below).

Below is a brief sample of some of the activities available to our pupils:

Every two years, the Prep School organises a ski trip to Europe.

2009 saw 83 children skiing at Les Menuires in the French alps for a week. All the children received expert instruction from the ESF over 6 days, taking their ski test on the final day. This was a great trip and a high point of the year for many of those (children and staff) who went.

In March 2011, we will be returning to Les Menuires in the French Alps. More details will follow......

Each year our year 8 pupils are taken to Newquay in Cornwall on a water-based activity week. The children rock climb, abseil and zip-wire during the beach activities before going on to surf, body-board, canoe, sail, windsurf and build rafts. This is an unforgettable trip for our year 8 students and leaves them with many happy memories to take with them in their last year in the Prep School.

Every Summer, year 7 pupils travel to the Chateau de la Baudonniere in Normandy for a week-long French field trip. They quickly find themselves immersed in French culture and are encouraged to communicate in French wherever possible. The children take part in many activities, including climbing, archery, fencing, iniative exercises, bread-making and the ever popular assault course. Mealtimes allow us to try out french cooking culminating in the great snail-eating challenge!

All of the instructors and teachers work in French and so the children learn to develop their language skills in new and exciting contexts. The only problem with the trip (according to the children) is the fact that it is over so soon!
