A-Level
For AS and A2 at Brighton College, we follow the Oxford Cambridge and RSA (OCR) Fine Art qualification.
Our singular success in these courses is underlined by our strong emphasis on drawing, presented in a lively, versatile and imaginative manner. Painting, drawing and sculpture form the backbone of our disciplines and an appreciation and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to pupils’ projects is indispensable in this success.
Three specific modules are taken in the Lower Sixth (the Coursework Projects and Controlled Assignment). In the Upper Sixth, the Specialist Project, Personal Study and Controlled Test are taken.
Our success in these courses are reflected in our examination results. Sixty nine pupils gained A grades out of a total of eighty five pupils. Eighty one out of eighty five pupils gained A or B grades out of these eighty five individuals.
Twenty eight pupils have gone on to Art College since 2006 and five pupils have go on to read Art History and four pupils are studying Architecture at University.
Annual External Moderators are usually overjoyed by the range, quality and dedication of pupils in the pursuit of making Art.

I quote from the visiting Moderator's Report for A2 Art and Photography:
"The presentation of the work for the A2 Moderation was outstanding and much time had gone into the exhibiting of this work for the moderation sample.
Coursework: Candidates had clearly benefited from a course that encouraged individual direction and work from first-hand sources. The Assessment Objectives had been met evenly and to a very high level in both Fine Art and Photography. No adjustments were made to this unit.
Controlled Test: The work completed by candidates for this unit was very individual and represented a culmination of the students' learning throughout their course. Preparatory work was well informed with relevant connections being made with artists/photographers. Final outcomes were fully resolved and there was evidence of mature and sustained realisations."
