CCF

Combined Cadet Force

The Combined Cadet Force is based upon military concepts of discipline and training, which boys and girls can develop powers of leadership and qualities of responsibility, self reliance, resourcefulness and endurance. It provides for pupils who show an interest in the Services, to become an officer in the Regular or Reserve Forces.

Brighton College CCF has Army, Royal Naval and RAF Sections. Pupils may elect to join the CCF and all three sections have a common core of Drill, Turnout and Skill at Arms. The RN Section then specialises in boatwork, mainly canoeing and powerboats, the Army Section in infantry skills and tactics, and the RAF Section in flight training.

At the start of the Upper Fifth pupils move onto Advanced Infantry; NCO leadership training, marching band, first aid, life saving, climbing, REME or Signals.  Training takes place every Wednesday afternoon and there are three Field Days per year. In addition, every pupil undertakes at least one camp during their period of service. These camps include skiing in Bavaria, annual Army and RAF camps and an extensive selection of RN courses some of which are aimed towards gaining qualifications (e.g. power-boating, sailing, yachting and first aid) whilst others are aimed at developing leadership and teamwork skills.
