Year 9

All boys and girls in the fourth form participate in compulsory dance classes. These classes offer  progression from the valuable dance skills gained through the pre-prep and prep schools in the early years. In Years 1-6, creative dance is studied as part of the Games programme and in years 7 and 8, pupils study contemporary dance and jazz dance technique in addition to choreography.

At year nine, the focus is on developing strength, stamina and flexibility to complement pupils' sports training in their games sessions. Pupils learn how to develop good posture and co-ordination in their warm-ups as well as learning complex floor sequences using street, breakdance and physical theatre skills that are closely associated with theatre and drama. Lessons are fun and energetic and give pupils the opportunity to develop self confidence and self expression. Although there is always the odd pupil who feels that 'dance is not for them' after five weeks of study skills, they are usually happy to agree that it isn't so bad after all and that actually an open mind is usually the best bet for achieving the most from the sessions!
