The Skidelsky Sixth Form CentreBrighton College Development Plan
Brighton College has never been a school to stand still or rest on its laurels. In its long history it has always pioneered new ideas, led debate and, at various times, set the education agenda. However, Brighton is not a wealthy school and cannot rely on an investment portfolio created by the founding fathers. In order to maintain its beautiful Victorian buildings and provide first class modern facilities the school has to run a ‘tight ship' but also to seek the financial support of parents, former pupils, friends and generous institutions.
In recent years Brighton College has invested millions of pounds in new buildings and refurbishing existing facilities. Among recent additions to the site are the Kennedy Tower (History and Politics), the Confucius Institute (Mandarin Chinese), the Starkey Sixth Form Centre (a study centre, careers library, lecture theatre and common room), the Alexander Visual Arts Centre, the Sammy Woods Pavilion (Cricket and rugby), and a new Durnford House (for day pupils). In addition, the Modern Languages and Geography departments have been completely refurbished, boarding houses have been refurbished and extended in a £1 million programme, a new medical centre has been created, the Burstow Gallery has been restored and work on the new Lower School has begun.
A new Development Office is being created to implement an exciting Development Plan which will spearhead a new era of building a refurbishment on the College campus. The office will also seek new funds for bursaries so that more children can benefit from the extraordinary Brighton College experience long into the future.
