Dyslexia Centre
The Centre, which is housed in two large terraced houses, is very well resourced, especially in its IT facilities. It has 7 teaching rooms containing 36 fully networked computers, interactive whiteboard and many specialist software packages.
Most of the support offered by the Centre is delivered in small groups; these are never larger than 9 and often only 7 in number. The pupils in these groups are always from the same year group, and they become very supportive of one another.
The Centre supports pupils from all three Brighton College schools.
In Years 4 to 6 further development of phonic skills and spelling rules takes place together with in-class English support, and maths support. Keyboard skills are also introduced.
In Years 7 and 8 the emphasis is on supporting pupils with their Common Entrance work, teaching the English course, developing comprehension skills, developing study skills, encouraging the development of keyboard skills and maths support.
Having successfully jumped the GCSE hurdle, many of our dyslexic pupils are able to pursue their sixth form studies with minimal support beyond that offered by the academic departments themselves, although ad hoc support is always available on request.
