Competitions
House Song CompetitionThe House Cup is competed for over the year by the eleven Houses (split as separate girls and boys competitions) over a variety of activities. Points are awarded according to the position gained and significance of each event and the combined totals determine the final placings. Currently, we are in the Junior Public Speaking final and have some top swimmers to enable us to do well in the Waterpolo and Swimming competitions. We also have some fine Footballers and Cricketers, so much is expected in the forthcoming months.
A healthy rivalry exists between the Houses and each event is ‘fiercely’ competed for. However, of course, the main benefit of the House Cup is to provide a positive outlet for all the pupils in the school whether they partake, organise or support an event. The College is rightly proud of the variety and diversity of the events in the competition which provide a parameter for challenging and enriching all students who actively take part. Often Houses have particular strengths; currently for boys, Aldrich leads the way academically and the Junior Public Speaking team has reached the final for the fourth time in five years.
There is a large range of activities which should enthuse and involve virtually all members of each House to some extent.
The House Song is considered to be the jewel of the House Competition as it involves every pupil in the school. Aldrich's history in this competition is relatively dire, particularly with an awful rendition of 'Swing Low' in 2004. However, astonishingly, in 2007/8 , they nearly won it with a sensational (kilts and all) version of '500 miles'. Joint 2nd out of the 11 Houses was even considered by some to be an injustice! In 2008, a Jamie Brathwaite inspired rendition of 'Get Down on it' miraculously won us the competition. However, things turned full circle last year with our uninspired version of 'Get down on it'. The boys are already plotting a comeback for 2010 though.

Aldrich also offers numerous year group internal competitions, which are ongoing throughout the year in Pool. The winner usually receives a popular ‘Kemp Town Deli’ £5 voucher.
Table Tennis and Pool are currently ‘in favour’ games which are played at break times within the House.
