Hampden

The Hampden Crest

The oldest of the day houses, Hampden is now situated on the west side of the school next to the sports hall. There are 65 boys in the house and 7 members of staff are attached to it. Friendships are strong amongst the boys and the atmosphere is a warm one. The older boys are encouraged to support the younger ones, leading by example and organising events and house competitions.

All of the boys are encouraged to work hard and develop academic interests, but it is equally important that they partake in a broad and rich variety of activities outside the classroom. Over their five years in the school the boys develop a real attachment to and pride in Hampden house, which plays an important part in their lives at Brighton College.

He is supported by 5 house tutors, who have responsibilities for each of the year groups in addition to their subject teaching.

• M.J. Edmunds, 4th form: medmunds@brightoncollege.net
  Mr. Edmunds is in charge of English as a foreign language. He is a keen sportsman and Master i/c Cricket and Master i/c Under Fourteens Rugby.
• S.Dewing, Lower 5th: sdewing@brightoncollege.net
  Mr. Dewing teaches Art at the school.
  
• B. Frier, Upper 5th: bfrier@brightoncollege.net
  Mr. Frier is Head of Academic P.E. He is a keen athlete, and is presently in traing to run the New York marathon.
• R.A. Chenery, Lower 6th: rchenery@brightoncollege.net
  Mr. Chenery is Director of Music at the school and is heavily involved in work with choristers and instrumentalists in both Senior and Prep School.
• J. Prideaux, Upper 6th: jprideaux@brightoncollege.net
  Mr Prideaux teaches Chemistry. He also runs the Christian Union and Community Service for Sixth Formers.
