School House Crest

School House is the oldest boarding house at the College, and it has recently benefited from an extensive refurbishment: brand new communal areas, a new ICT room and other recreational facilities were completed in the summer of 2008.  School House is home to 60 boys who are either full or weekly boarders.  For more detailed information about School House, you can download the School House Manual:

The School House Tutor Team

Mr Godfrey, the Housemaster of School House, is supported by a team of five tutors who each have responsibility for a year group in the House.  They meet every Wednesday with their tutees and monitor their academic performance and general well-being.  In addition, they take their tutees through the PSHE curriculum, and get to know them outside the classroom environment.  The tutors are:

Mr & Mrs Godfrey with their children, Grace and Alec

  • Mr Matthew Godfrey – Housemaster (and Lower Fifth Tutor)
Subject specialism:  I teach English language and literature and have a passion for Shakespeare and American literature.
Other interests:  I love writing myself and have written a number of features for national newspapers.  I am keen sportsman with a special passion for tennis, squash, golf and skiing.
Something different:  I worked for a number of summers as a chauffeur punter on the River Cam in Cambridge – on one occasion falling spectacularly into the river in front of thousands of tourists on the busiest weekend of the year.  I worked in business for seven years before training as a teacher.
Education:  I graduated from Durham University before taking a part-time Master’s degree in Education with the Open University.  I completed my PGCE in English at the Institute of Education (University of London).
  • Mr Chris Morrissey – Deputy Housemaster (and Lower Sixth Tutor)
Subject specialism:  Psychology – with a specialism in causes of prejudice.
Other interests:  Tai Chi and Golf – and watching CSI on TV!
Something different:  I taught English as a foreign language in France and Italy.
Education:  Degree taken at University of Cambridge, University College (now Wolfson College). PGCE completed at University of London, Institute of Education.
  • Mr Andrew Debney - Upper Sixth Tutor (and Head of Mathematics)
Subject specialism: Mathematics, though I also have a degree in Computer Science which remains an important interest to me.
Other interests: Sport - including slow marathon running and supporting Leeds United through thick and thin (mainly the latter recently), juggling, unicycling and other circus skills (excluding lion taming!).
Something different: I own a canal barge which is my main escape during school holidays.
Education: My degrees come from Leeds University and the Open University and my PGCE is also from Leeds.

  • Mr Matthew Perkins - Upper Fifth Tutor
Subject specialism: Physical Education and Geography
Other interests: football, jogging, hiking, camping, going to the beach, barbecues, reading (African literature, autobiographies, and suspense/spy/war novels).
Something different: I dislike all seafood, although I am not allergic to any. If I am invited to dinner, I prefer steak and roast potatoes!
Education: I completed my Honours in Sports Science and PGCE at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. I considered becoming a permanent student, but entered the 'real world' in 2006.
  • Miss Audrey Pontoizeau – Fourth Form Tutor
Subject specialism:  I teach French and Spanish ( I studied French literature and I am very interested in medieval novels about King Arthur which was one of my specialist subjects at university).
Other interests: I love listening to Ben Harper's music, learning how to cook at home (I am a pretty bad cook by the way, never try my Christmas log: it was a disaster last year!).
Something different:  I am scared to death by spiders and any kind of insects: if it is small it is dangerous!!
Education:  I studied in the University of Nantes in France where I did a degree in French literature.  I went on to do a Master’s degree and then I taught French in the University of Turku in Finland, as part of my training.  I also worked with asylum seekers in France during my last year at university.  I finally did my GTP (teacher training) in languages with CILT, the national centre for languages in London.
