Seldon

The Williams Crest

Seldon House is one of the four girl's Houses at Brighton College and lies at the heart of the College in a purpose built building next to the Headmasters House.  The House at the moment has 67 day pupils.  A dedicated team of tutors work with the girls to ensure that they are well supported and guided through their time at Brighton College.  The House has its own unique character, and operates to provide a happy, purposeful, and supportive environment for the girls in the College.

Housemistress: Ms Eleanor Whipple, ewhipple@brightoncollege.net
Contact number - 01273 704265
Miss Whipple is housemistress of Seldon house. Before joining Brighton College in 2001 she enjoyed a successful career as a professional cellist, performing with many London orchestras, in Les Miserables in the West End and even accompanying the Spice Girls on occassions. After spending time as acting Housemistress of Williams Parish House and deputy Housemistress of Fenwick House she was delighted to take on her current role in 2007.

The “tutor team”

We have six tutors in Seldon, each having responsibility for one of the year groups.  Each tutor is in the House at 8.20 am to register his or her tutees, and to deal with any notes from home (including “off games” notes and dental appointments amongst others).  The tutors will then go to Chapel with the girls.  The tutors will also be on hand for the students in “House time” on a Wednesday and will liaise with parents over issues which may arise during the school day.  It is the tutor who oversees the interim process with his or her tutees, reviewing and monitoring academic progress during the year.  The tutor and the Housemistress should be the first point of contact.
