Competitions

Holly Anne Horsley and Lora Maxwell collecting the cups

House competitions

There are an enormous number of Inter-House competitions for every one of the girls to think about competing in. Every member of the House should aim to participate in at least one event, during the course of the year. Below are just a few of the competitions in which the House competes. The aim is to win the much coveted House cup at the end of the year!!

Sports Day

Sports Day, 2007

The girls were out in force for Sports Day, and we managed to win both the Junior and Senior events.  This was a real triumph for the House, and many of the girls should be congratulated for their contribution here.  Particular mention should go to Holly Anne Horsley for her tremendous effort in the 1500m where the rest of the field got totally left behind.  Also to Anna Horner for breaking the school 100m hurdle record, Florrie Wilby for breaking the 100m and 200m Junior girls record and to Louisa Papanicola who holds the new school record for Junior shot putt.  It was not just these excellent efforts though that helped lead us to victory.  We won overall because all the girls were prepared to be part of the day and represent the House and I must say it was a very proud moment when we came away with both the cups - demonstrating that whatever the contribution the girls made in their event - they made a difference to helping the House win overall.

Summer Sports competitions

Summer, 2007

Our other triumphs in the Summer term were winning the Junior House swimming competition, and also the Junior rounders competition.  As always the girls showed real spirit and determination, and should be very proud of these achievements.

Christmas term competitions

The House Challenge, 2007

The first challenge of the House cup this academic year was to try and win the House challenge. The Junior team did a fantatsic job here, and ably captained by Julia Niblett managed to come away victorious.  The Senior team also put in a sterling effort, but were beaten by strong opposition.

House Hockey, 2007

Again the Junior team was victorious!  They created lots of excellent chances and won all of their matches against the other Houses.  The Seniors put up a really good fight and came second in the competition.

Lent term Competitions

Junior House Netball, 5th January 2008

In the first sporting competition of the season both the A and B teams were victorious in the competition.  They were ably captained by Caitlin Horner and Lauren Palmer.  Both teams showed a steely determination to win, and came away from all their matches with a win.  Izi Noakes did an excellent job as an A team player (even though she is in the Fourth form).  The B team were also a strong team, and determined to win.

Senior House Netball, 2nd February 2008

We enjoyed perfect weather conditions on Saturday for the Senior House Netball competition. 8 teams produced good quality netball throughout the morning & a nail-biting finish was held between Williams and Fenwick House in the A competition.

Both the A and B teams played great netball, with Milly Cannon and Emma Thomas shooting superbly for the A team, and Emily Keighley dominating in the centre of the Court for the B team.

The results were as follows:

'B' Competition:

  • 4th - Connor (1 point)
  • 3rd - Chichester (5 points)
  • 2nd - Fenwick (10 points)
  • 1st - Williams (15 points)

'A' Competition:

  • 4th - Chichester (1 point)
  • 3rd - Connor (6 points)
  • 2nd - Fenwick (13 points & +23 goal difference)
  • 1st - Williams (13 points & +49 goal difference)

A win in both the senior and junior netball competitions is a real triumph, and the girls should be justifiably proud of their wins in House competitions this term to date.

Current standing of House cup (Jan 28th 2008):

  • 1st: Williams (66 points)
  • 2nd: Williams Conner (62 points)
  • 3rd = Chichester / Fenwick (60 points)
