ECDL

ECDL Test Centre

The College is an ECDL test centre and all students in year 9 have the opportunity to follow a course leading to a Level 2 ICT qualification, ratified by the British Computer Society. This is a well recognised qualification in the business world and is rapidly growing in popularity, being the standard course for such bodies as the NHS and Civil Service.
Students in year 9 have one period a week dedicated to ICT, utilising an independent learning package to work their way through certain modules, hopefully resulting in a "Flexiqual". As the name suggests, there is a flexibility regarding which modules the pupils will attempt depending upon their skills and interests.

They will be required to select two modules from the following;

  • Spreadsheets
  • Presentation
  • Word processing

There will be a mandatory unit that will test one of the above applications that they have studied in a project format.

They will also need to pass at least one module from the following list;

  • ICT User Fundamentals
  • Using Email and the internet
  • Security for ICT Users

In conjuction with the above modules, there will be lessons looking at the benefits of Social Networking Sites, Careers in ICT and Health and Safety issues.
