Chamber Music
Chamber Music
Chamber Music thrives at Brighton College and numerous groups are coached throughout the year. Many ensembles are entered for the Pro Corda Chamber Music Festival and Brighton College has a long tradition of success in this country wide competition. For the last five years we have been represented in the finals by many outstanding groups, maintaining our National reputation in this field. This year three groups from the school won places in the prestigious finalists concert held at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Brighton College will again be hosting the Southern qualifying heat of the competition in February 2011.
All instruments are catered for in a huge variety of groups across the school, from saxophone ensembles to piano trios. Each group is tailor made to develop the skills of the wealth of talented musicians at the school. Coaching is provided by members of the music staff and on a weekly basis, from Baroque ensembles to jazz quintets and there are many performance opportunities. This year our senior piano quartet were not only finalists in the national chamber music festival but they also were given the opportunity to perform in the Theatre Royal. String orchestra, quartets, wind and brass ensembles and more contemporary groups all have a place here.Masterclasses are a highlight for many of the groups given by celebrated artists such as the Baroque string specialist Elizabeth Wallfisch and the Marylebone Wind Trio who coached many of our groups before performing themselves in the very popular evening autograph concerts hosted by Brighton College.
