Parents Association

The Brighton College Senior School Parents Association was launched in October 2006.

Our aim is to organise events for the enjoyment of the Senior School pupils and their parents, while maintaining links with the 2 lower Schools. We also hope, where possible, to raise funds for the Senior School by supporting its' Houses and any special projects there may be, as well as raising funds for Charity.

We have been extremely pleased with what we have achieved in our first year.

In the Michaelmas term we held a raffle at the Senior School Musical, which made a profit of £486.32 as well as introducing us to the College.

In the Lent term we held an Ice Skating event in the Front Quad which was a huge success. The weather was fabulous and from Midday until 10pm there were pupils from all 3 Schools and their parents skating on the artificial rink, enjoying refreshments, visiting the 'fete-style' stalls run by the 11 Senior Houses, and listening to the fantastic varied music provided by a large number of very talented amateur College musicians. We tried to keep the ticket prices low, but still made a profit of £883.57 overall on the event. Additionally, by us providing the event, the House stalls were able to raise a total of £451.60 which went straight into their funds.

In the Summer term we ran a refreshment stall at the Lashings International Cricket Event. This was run mainly as a service for the parents and pupils from all 3 Schools who came to watch the event. We kept our prices very much at 'pocket-money' level, but still made a profit of £92.63 as well as retaining some stock to be used at our next event.

At the end of our first year we have made several donations:

  • We have given £700 to the Joe Scourfield Memorial fund, which was raised by having 'mufti' on the Skating Day.
  • We have distributed £1100 equally between the Senior School Houses, which has been spent on items chosen by the pupils such as a microwave, a television, posters, picture frames, and sofas.
  • We have bought a gazebo tent for outdoor events which can be used by the College or any of the 3 Parent Associations & the Family Society.

We are then left with a profit (which also includes a 'start-up' donation from the Brighton College Family Society of £1400) of £1670.58. This will give us capital for setting up events in the next School year, as well as allowing us to build up funds for the Houses, Charity, and any Senior School project that we feel we could contribute towards.

I would like to give my thanks to all the Committee members, 'last minute' helpers, academic & ancillary staff, parents and pupils who have given us so much kind support in our first year.
