Trips & Gallery Visits

The yearly excursion to London provides the pupils with a visual feast of Art & Photography. Venues visited in 2007 concentrated on the two different sites: Tate Britain and Hayward Gallery. The trip is not devoted exclusively to photography for those studying the subject. One of the main focuses of the afternoon required the pupils to analyse a chosen work of art in situ and present their critique to the rest of the group. This provides them with a good grounding for their Academic Essay (3000 - 6000 words), particularly as the medium is seen in connection with the work of other artists and photographers. The entire trip also provides the pupils with numerous photographic opportunities, memorable images & introduces them to first hand stimulus.

Previous trips have focused on studying the relationship between Photography & Sculpture by visiting the fantastic array of work at the Cass Sculpture Foundation (situated near Goodwood). The weather always ensures that different light conditions come into play and the surrounding vistas create juxtapositions of expansive skies with hidden landscapes. The experience proves invaluable in terms of exploring compositional elements. Subsequent images produced have certainly been inspiring and have informed various projects for this academic year.
