Major Boys Sports
Rugby
Member of Staff i/c: Mr N. Buoy
Brighton College has a strong rugby tradition dating back over its 160 year history. During that time, numerous players have earned representative honours, both at schoolboy and first class level.
During the winter term, the College fields twelve rugby teams from Under 14s through to 1st XV. On a Saturday, over 75% of the boys have the opportunity to pull on a college rugby shirt. The 1st XV and Under 15s compete in the National Daily Mail Cup with the 1st XV also competing in the St Joseph’s and Sedbergh National festivals. Those players aiming to play representative rugby have the opportunity to play for Sussex and for Premiership clubs through links with Saracens and Harlequins. The college continues to play rugby after Christmas for those who choose to do so. Fixtures continue on Saturdays with the style of rugby moving towards that needed for the National Sevens & Tens Competitions.
Sevens (Tens)
The Sevens varient of the game is an important part of the college's Rugby calendar. Tournaments take place in the later half of the Lent Term, with all the year groups putting out squads. In 2000 the college won the National 7s at Rosslyn Park.

Football
Member of Staff i/c: Mr B Lambe
Football is the predominant sport of the spring term. All sides have enjoyed success in recent years with the 1st XI remaining unbeaten in 2006. Each year group has four teams playing fixtures every Saturday against schools such as Wellington, Dulwich, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and King's Canterbury.
The history of football at the college dates back to the late nineteenth Century with many boys of that era gaining blues. G H Cotterill captained his country in 1893 with the Old Boys playing in the FA cup. The enthusiasm for football continues today and plays an important part of the games programme.

Cricket
Member of Staff i/c: Mr M Edmunds
Cricket is the major summer sport and, like Rugby, it has enjoyed a proud tradition. In the last ten years, a number of boys and girls have progressed from school cricket to the county and international stage. Over the last twenty five years under the guidance of former Sussex fast bowler John Spencer, the College has established itself as one of the leading cricket schools in England.
Much of the recent success comes as the result of a dynamic relationship with Sussex County Cricket Club and its Academy; a flexible system is in place which allows those players on the Academy to train down at the county ground at Hove for one games' afternoon a week throughout the year.
However, as is the philosophy for every sport at Brighton College, the emphasis is always on enjoyment and improvement, regardless of level. Eight cricket teams are fielded each Saturday with a broad fixture list of schools including Eton, Dulwich, Harrow, and the Lashings World XI. The 1st XI play in the Sussex Schools 20/20 cup and attend the BOWS cricket festival which involves Brighton, Oakham, Wellington and Sedbergh in the first week of the summer holidays.
Recently Matt Prior, Laura Marsh, Sarah Taylor and Holly Colvin have all represented England. Last season Matt Prior scored a hundred on his debut at Lords against the West Indies which followed Sarah Taylor's maiden century for England against current World Champions Australia - a phenomenal feat for a seventeen year old schoolgirl. Carl Hopkinson and Michael Thornely are on the staff at the county ground, whilst current pupil Adam Davies followed Matthew Machan in earning his England Under 15 cap and in gaining the prestigious Bunbury Scholarship.
