Athletics (Boys & Girls)

Athletics is one of the major sports that takes in the Summer Term for both the boys and girls. The college teams attend co-ed and single sex meets on Saturdays against other independent schools including Eastbourne, Eton, Harrow, Malborough, Sevenoaks, Stowe, Wellington.

The athletes train at the Withdean Athletics stadium twice a week with specialised coaches in many of the disciplines. 

Individual athletes also compete in District Championships with many going on to County Championships and English Schools’.

Squash

Member of staff i/c: Mr M Godfrey

Squash is one of the most successful sports that the college has to offer. Both boys and girls teams have made National finals and have won the Sussex Championships several times at both junior and senior levels. Recent pupils Rachel Willmott, Chris Simpson and Suzie Pierrepont have gained National and European honours.  The college teams are coached by Ben Hutton, who has worked with top players throughout the country, twice a week at Corals squash club in Hove.

Golf

Member of staff i/c: Mr P Sperring

The college golf team plays fixtures in the first half of the Michaelmas and Summer terms. Home matches are played at East Brighton Golf Club - a mature and challenging James Braid designed course with spectacular views of the South Downs. The college enters the HMC Foursomes and ISGA knockout tournaments each year, as well as the ISGA Cup and the West Sussex Golf Club Schools Invitational (Michaelmas Term). Summer matches are played against local schools. At Brighton College we also offer all pupils the opportunity to sign up for golf as an activity in the Michaelmas Term, which is run by the East Brighton Golf Club professional (including etiquette lessons, putting, short game and long game tuition).

Swimming

Member of staff i/c: Mr B Lambe

The school's twenty-five metre pool is in regular use in all year round.  Competitive matches take place mostly in the Summer Term against other Sussex schools and individuals are also entered into the Brighton & Hove District championships.  As well as stroke improvement coaching, there are activities in water polo, the opportunity to work towards life-saving qualifications and a Scuba-Diving Club.

Tennis

Member of Staff i/c: Mr F. Kellow-Webb

The Tennis teams play on a competitive circuit with league and cup fixtures against other independent schools in the Sussex league and LTA Competitions.  All matches take place before half term at both Under 15 and Under 18 levels.  The college courts are situated at the Badgers Tennis Club where their resident professional assists with coaching.

Biathlon

Member of Staff i/c: Mr D Dunn

Biathlon is a new and successful sport at the college.  The Under 14 boys' team are National Champions and many of the girls and boys have gained top honours at both regional and national competitions.  The college also runs several events of its own during the year.

Rounders

Member of Staff i/c Ms J Langhorne

Rounders is a popular sport amongst the college girls that takes place as part of the summer programme.  Friendly fixtures are played during the week and at weekends.

Other Sports available at the college include Badminton, Waterpolo, Aerobics, Yoga, Volleyball, Strength / Conditioning, Cross Country.
