11+ Admissions

Brighton-College-lower-school-deck-chairs.jpg

The Lower School (Year 7 and 8) is very much part of our vibrant College community. The Head of Lower School, a dedicated Housemistress, and a team of Form Tutors ensure that every child is happy, fulfilled and appropriately challenged.

11+ entry to Brighton is directly into the College's Lower School, and not to our Prep School. If you have any questions about the admissions process, please email our admissions team.

Please note: We are now closed for 2024 11+ entry. Places may become available for late applicants, so please email our admissions team for more information.

Stage 1 - Enquiry

We hope you will find all the information you need on these pages, but if not, our admissions team is here to help. Please note that it’s not possible for a child to apply for both 11+ and 13+ (Fourth Form), as admissions decisions for these entry points are made concurrently. Please also note that we do not offer boarding at Brighton College until the Fourth Form. Any child who wishes to board from the age of 11 can do so at Handcross Park – part of the Brighton College family of schools, which is just north of Brighton.

The ideal way to see the Lower School and meet us is at one of our Open Mornings, which are held on one or two Saturdays each term, or you might also like to arrange an individual visit. These are available throughout the term time during the week, so you can see first-hand what life is like here at Brighton. Please get in touch well in advance to arrange a visit - email our admissions team.

Stage 2 - Registration

If you would like to apply for a place in our Lower School for your child, please complete our online registration form. Please email our admissions team for the link to the form for your child’s year group. We recommend that you register as soon as possible, and by the end of November of the school year before they join us at the latest.

Stage 3 - Assessments and scholarships

Brighton-College-Teaching (girl)-.jpg (1)

We invite all children registered for our Lower School to join us for the Academic Assessment Day, which takes place early in December of the school year before they join us. They'll be assessed in maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Later, in January of the school year before they join us, all children will be invited to the Interview and Activities Day. At that event they’ll take part in a range of fun activities with our teachers, and also have two short interviews with members of the teaching staff.

All candidates are automatically assessed for an academic scholarship through the papers they sit on the Academic Assessment Day. We offer other scholarships and bursaries too, which you can read more about on our  scholarships page.

Stage 4 - Offers and welcome

Lower School places are offered by the end of January of the school year before pupils join us. Once you have confirmed your child's acceptance, we will send you a welcome pack and an invitation to come and meet their new class during the summer term. All Lower School pupils are allocated pupil buddies to welcome them and help them settle in quickly.
