Year 3 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Bluebell Railway heritage line for a World War Two experience unlike any other.
The children dressed as evacuees for the day and took individual identification cards stamped at the station, as they then travelled on the steam train from Sheffield Park Station to Kingscote Station (where a spot of lunch would be consumed!).
And then it was onto the final leg of the journey to Horsted Keynes Station, where the children enjoyed a carousel of topic-based workshops. The children learned about wartime propaganda, wrote postcards home using ink pens and took part in a drama workshop imagining they were evacuees who had just arrived in a country village.
Year3 were exceptionally fortunate to hear about life in the UK during WWII from two gentlemen who were children at the time, and it was an incredible privilege for them to share their stories.
