Lower Sixth pupils initially choose four subjects to study from our 27 options. From the second term onwards, pupils may discontinue one of these, although some will continue with four subjects for the duration of their Sixth Form. EPQ is also available to Sixth Form pupils, allowing a deep-dive study into an area of their choosing.

Our Human Story is a critical thinking programme taken by all Sixth Form pupils. Covering current affairs and cultural discussions, the course has been designed in order to develop skills which not only help with A-level exams and university entrance tests, but allow pupils to approach the world with confidence in their ability to untangle complicated questions.

The course has an explicit focus on key academic skills such as the analysis of argument, spotting bias in sources, reading skills, problem solving and presentation skills.

The Catalysts lecture series is open to all Lower Sixth pupils and is designed to support pupils applying for competitive university courses that will require the highest levels of critical thinking and analytical agility.

Through a series of seminars on a range of topics, our pupils enjoy the process of intellectual exploration and develop the confidence to apply critical thinking skills to material that is completely new to them. The course gives pupils an insight into the style of teaching, questioning and discussion that they will experience at university.

All Sixth Form pupils have the opportunity to take the Extended Project Qualification run by AQA. This is a stand-alone qualification equivalent to an AS-level.

The EPQ allows pupils to conduct a deep-dive research project on a topic of their choosing. Pupils submit a 5,000-word essay and give a presentation plus field questions on their findings.

Universities welcome the EPQ as it demonstrates the ability to be organised and work independently, both attributes which are essential at university.

Our Brigh10 lectures give you the opportunity to hear from a vast range of high-profile speakers throughout the academic year, all of whom are experts in their respective fields.

This year, our pupils have heard talks on academic freedom, politics, poetry, crossword construction, rugby, politics, exploration and the influenece of World War II on the modern world.

The diverse and engaging range of speakers enrich our academic learning and challenges our pupils to consider new ideas and concepts.
