Our dance pupils raised the roof of the Brighton Dome this
Tuesday, dazzling a delighted audience at our 2019 Dance
Show. With top hats, tutus, and sequins galore, over 300
Pre-Prep, Prep, Lower and Senior School pupils took to the
stage with a style and a passion that did not falter until
the final curtain fell. Opening with excerpts from the ballet
Cinderella, the school’s technical breadth shone through
as the seniors’ stunning pointe work and precision were
interspersed with the grace and elegance of the primary
dancers. Both the synchronisation and stamina from the
tappers of all ages in 42nd Street left the audience in awe.
Quick costume changes and new tempos saw the pupils
showcase their confident and powerful partner work in
Vampire Love Story, followed by joyful ‘showbiz’ numbers
with a modern twist in The Great Gatsby. Funky and
faultless routines from the Bronze and Platinum Jazz
Groups followed the Senior Show Team’s dramatic and
contemporary version of Romeo and Juliet. The dancers’
agility and precision continued to impress as the Junior
Development Squad performed Trip a Little Light Fantastic,
a fast and furiously accomplished fragment from ‘Mary
Poppins’. Finally, both the leavers and dance scholars
performed a highly sophisticated piece of Fosse-influenced
choreography: a stylish conclusion to an evening of vibrant
dance talent.
Congratulations to each and every one of the pupils
involved in the production, the sense of enjoyment on stage
was truly effervescent; the smiles on the dancers’ faces
could be seen from Row Z! Finally, a huge thank you to Ms
Linkenbagh and her dance team for their contribution and
hard work, resulting in Brighton College’s most exciting
dance show to date.
