In this week's newsletter Astrid (Lower Third) told us about her all-time favourite books: Derek Landy's hit Skulduggery Pleasant novels:
Derek Landy’s Skulduggery Pleasant series is a brilliant blend of humour, magic and adventure - along with a dash of detective work! The main protagonist, Stephanie, is twelve years old. Stephanie meets Skulduggery Pleasant, a sorcerer, at her Uncle Gordon’s funeral. Skulduggery, a skeleton, was a friend of her late Uncle Gordon, a writer of supposedly fictional stories about sorcerers and magic.
Stephanie inherits Gordon’s house and money (earned from his popular and famous books). She is soon apprenticed to Skulduggery and also becomes a sorcerer, quickly realising she is descended from the ancients, which means she has a direct line of magical power.
Each of the 14 books (with more to come) tells a story of their partnership and how they save the world from different villains. The writing really brings to life the
characters, places and situations, and there is always plenty of drama and excitement to keep your interest. I implore you to try this addictive magical series. They are my all-time favourite books so I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
A Skulduggery challenge to you: “A living skeleton isn’t enough for you, is it? What does it take to impress young
people these days?”
