On a beautifully sunny day in May, the whole school came together at the Withdean Stadium to take part in our annual Sports Day.
A relentless afternoon of racing, throwing, hop, skip and jumping; there was a buzz in the sultry air that spurned the competitors on: the roar of the main stand as the runners romped forward, and the camaraderie that existed on and off the track.
And as the sun had sank somewhat by the end of the day's activities, Williams House would be crowned the winning girls' House, whilst Hampden House was the successful boys' equivalent.
Yet as the many hundred traipsed off the scorched turf, there was a feeling of genuine pride amongst the colour and charm that filtered out of the iconic gates.
Records were smashed, too, in the field: a new school record in the boys' javelin, and the girls' shot put, slapping the icing onto the delicious cake.
But it's time to conclude by heaping the laud onto those that made the day possible. So much planning, so much dedication to ensure it all went smoothly, and smooth it certainly was.
It's not every day the entire school comes together like this, and with the proverbial bar set high, the competition was as expected, and as hoped.
Until the next one swings around... thank you to all those who helped create such a swirling, fizzing atmosphere on a truly memorable day of sport.
